Many people are not aware of just how serious poor leg circulation can be. A 2006 P.A.D. Coalition survey of adults at least 50 years old found that of
those familiar with P.A.D. (Peripheral Artery Disease):
- Only 25% associated P.A.D. with risk of heart attack
- Only 28% associated P.A.D. with risk of stroke
The sooner you know if you have P.A.D., the sooner you can talk to your doctor
about lifestyle changes and treatment options to help reduce your risk of a heart
attack or stroke. That's why medical guidelines recommend early detection for those
with risk factors. Getting tested now may help you in the future.
If you think you're at risk, you know what your next steps should be. If you're
over 50 with risks for heart disease — such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or smoking — make an appointment as soon as possible to talk to your doctor about P.A.D.
